Admissions blog: student views - "getting involved"

Students in a lab

Flavia Sendi-MukasaGuest post by Flavia Sendi-Mukasa, 1T7 (second-year medical student).

Two clubs that I’m actively involved with at U of T are the Black Medical Students Association (BMSA) and Orbital Groove, our preclerkship rock band. I play the drums in the band, and I love it. It’s a great stress reliever and it’s a ton of fun to play for my classmates at charity events.

In the BMSA we strive to mentor high school and undergraduate students who wish to pursue a career in medicine by holding workshops. This year, we’ve also worked with the faculty on ways to increase representation of Black Canadian medical students – and they have been very supportive.
